Our personalities are shaped by many causes, innate and environmental. Understanding our personality preferences and how to recognize the personality preferences of others enhances the effectiveness and quality of our interactions. When we recognize differences and change our approach based on the needs of the person with whom we are working, satisfaction increases and partnership occurs.
- Emotional Intelligence
Emotional intelligence has been found to be more than twice as important in effective leaders than either IQ or experience. Emotional Intelligence refers to the ability of to understand, control and express one’s emotions, as well as to understand and relate to the emotional make-up of others. While there is a genetic component to emotional intelligence, skills to increase emotional intelligence can also be learned.
- Generational Differences
As a group of individuals, we are shaped by the events that occur in our world as we reach maturity. The forces that shaped the early cohort of Baby Boomers were very different than the world events that influenced the development of the millennial generation. Understanding these differences helps individuals from different generations effectively flex to meet each other’s needs.
